Our Wichita Assistance League was responsible for the activities done at an AL regional networking event today (Tues. March 28, 2017) We networked with 5 other chapters in KC Mo. (Gladstone, MO AL) at their beautiful chapter house. Chapters from Kansas City, Omaha, middle Missouri, Minneapolis, and St. Louis, along with our chapter, networked and shared great ideas and practices. Thanks to ourpresident, Judy Zimbelman, and her committee, who put this event together. We had 12 from our chapter attend to gain new ideas and share our successes. These are the members who attended today. We had a GREAT day!!! Love this organization who provide clothing, scholarships, supplies for children and those who are victims of abuse. http://AL Networking Event March 28, 2017

Subaru of Wichita and the Assistance League partnered August 17 to help children that are victims of violence. Folks from all over Wichita came to "Stuff the Subaru" with bears and journals/sketchbooks! Bears were available at the site and sketchbooks/journals were right inside at another partner of ours, Watermark Books. It was a successful event which will enable many children find comfort from a cuddly bear.

Today Adam Norris (red shirt) and Noah Taylor (blue shirt), the marketing team of Subaru of Wichita, came to the aid of Assistance League of Wichita Thrift Shop. Some clothing and household items that may not be sold at the shop serve families in need at the First United Methodist Church Open Door. The Open Door volunteer who usually brings her SMALL truck to pick up from ALW was unable to come today. But the Subaru team stepped in like super heroes to save the day so the Open Door clothes closet remains full!!!! Together Adam and Noah made short work of loading the bags and boxes. ALW sends many thanks to Subaru, Adam and Noah for stepping up to help.

Kay Dunlap proudly introduced Bradley Auch, J.C. Penney's Town West manager, at our May membership luncheon. ALW and Penney's are partnering to offer OSB to our USD259 families through an in-store shopping experience. The OSB committee has worked tirelessly to create a model that supports the community needs while allowing us to "work smarter, not harder." We are all looking forward to working with Bradley and his team.

The Ada Edwards Laughlin Award was established in the 1980's and is presented to a member whose behind-the-scenes contributions to her chapter are considered to be significant and which exemplify the attributes of Ada Edwards Laughlin. Ada was the right-hand woman and often silent partner of Ann Banning, founder of Assistance League. Ada served as Vice President of Assistance League from its foundation in 1919 until her retirement in 1948. Bev Farha is a charter member of ALW and truly exemplifies the attributes of Ada. She has quietly and without fanfare worked tirelessly over the years to move our chapter forward. Her selfless attitude was evident when presented with the award as her only words were, "I haven't done anything." Bev is the best example of giving from the heart, she is a hard worker and is a joy to be around. Congratulations Bev!
