Gingerbread Village 2013 begins with “Sparkles and Spirits,” a fundraising gala to support the philanthropic projects of the Assistance League® of Wichita, which provides services to students and families in our community. Enjoy an evening of food, spirits, auction and dancing on November 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Exploration Place, with music provided by “The Source.” Tickets are $90 per person purchased in advance. This year we are partnering with Exploration Place to create an exciting and memorable experience. Gingerbread Village is open to the public on Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, November 17 from Noon to 5 p.m. Guests will be able to view original gingerbread houses, create their own take-home house and explore and experience Exploration Place exhibits!
Tickets are available online or may be purchased at Exploration Place on the days of the event. For members of Exploration Place, the price is $5 for ages 3 and over. For non-members, the prices are $8 for Seniors (65+); $9.50 for Adults (12-64 years of age); and $6 for Youth (ages 3-11). Children two and under are free. Tickets include making your own gingerbread house and experiencing all of the exhibits at Exploration Place.
The gingerbread fun continues at the life-size Gingerbread House at Cambridge Market (21st & Webb Rd) which will be open on November 23 and December 7. Children are invited to have their pictures taken with Santa Claus and the life-size Gingerbread Boy. Children are encouraged to drop off their letters to Santa at the Gingerbread House.
All proceeds of this event benefit the Assistance League’s philanthropic programs:
• Operation School Bell® which provides new school clothing, coats, shoes and grooming kits to USD 259 students in need.
• Scholarships which help pay for fees and supplies needed to complete a vocational degree at Wichita Area Technical College or Butler Community College.
• Sexual Assault Victim Support Kits which provide victims with new clothing and toiletry items through the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center.
• Bear-Hugs which provide teddy bears and toiletry items to sexually abused children upon their entry into the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Recovery Team program at Via Christi-St. Joseph.
